Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman is the third daughter of their family. Ruth was a small toddler when her father who was employed as an carnival barker, died. The mother of the family had to perform tasks like waitressing, cleaning and washing. Ruth went to school in the tenement district of Boston's most deprived. But she quit school in the span of two years to take on a acting career. The path she chose was not without obstacles. When she was in New York, her first job involved posing stills for crime magazines. her dream of performing in the theater she longed to do was abyssal. After working as a hat-check girl at a nightclub she quit her job and moved back to Boston. In Boston, she was able to earn a living working as an usherette during the during the day and then at night was a part of the New England Repertory Company. It was her first role as an actor. The study of drama helped her to graduate from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
